Who is required to meet the CPD requirements?

All practising members of the Law Society of New Brunswick are required to meet the CPD requirements, regardless of whether they practise law on a full-time or part-time basis.

I was recently admitted to the Law Society. Do I have to complete CPD hours?

No. In the calendar year in which you successfully complete the Law Society’s Bar Admission Program, or an equivalent program in another Canadian jurisdiction, you are not required to complete CPD hours.

If I enter or leave practice mid-year, how many CPD hours must I complete?

Members who practise law during a reporting year must complete one (1) CPD credit hour for each full or partial calendar month in which they hold practising status during that year.

Important notes:

          • The minimum two (2) Professional Responsibility and Ethics hours must be                                  completed regardless of when you enter or cease practice during the year.
         
          • The mandatory course The Communication Toolkit must be completed by                                      December 31, 2026, regardless of the length of time you held practising status.
